Within our mills lies our craft. Since the 17th century, we have mastered the skills of making high quality papers, from fine paper to security paper, and more recently smart papers for printed electronics. Creating a sheet with lasting perfection takes precision. We rely on the knowledge, skill and experience of our people coupled with cutting-edge equipment to produce the world’s most diverse collection of unique papers.
Arjowiggins’ mills are located in Europe (Stoneywood in Scotland, Chartham in England, Guarro Casas in Spain) and in China (Quzhou). They all abide by the highest standards in terms of safety, quality and respect to the environment.
Stoneywood Mill, on the banks of the River Don near Aberdeen, Scotland, was built in 1770 by James Moir who owned the estate at that time. The mill started the production of paper three years later. In 1800, it was acquired by Alexander Pirie who switched production from brown paper to fine papers. Two years later the mill produced its first watermarked paper. Over the following decades the mill built an international reputation for high-quality papers, and by the late 1800s, its products were sold in most countries around the world.
Today, Stoneywood Mill continues to produce world-leading fine paper brands such as Conqueror, Curious Collection, Keaykolour and Delos for graphic and packaging applications. It has also diversified into producing casting papers, security papers and more recently, smart papers for printed electronics.

Gateway is now recognised throughout the world as the leading brand of translucent paper for manual and technical drawing.
Today, Chartham combines traditional and modern processing technology to offer a wide range of translucent papers for graphic applications, as well as innovative products such as food-contact barrier papers and sustainable alternatives to petrochemical-based plastics.
